Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor being assessed for a knee injury as his team faces a nervous wait for news

New York Jets quarterback Tyrod Taylor has suffered a knee injury during their training camp, in a major blow to the franchise. The news was revealed on Tuesday afternoon as head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed a number of injuries that his side are dealing with during their training camp. Glenn revealed that Taylor - who is expected to back up starter Justin Fields during the upcoming season - had taken a knock and is now being assessed by staff. Speaking on the day, Glenn said: 'Listen, we all know he's an older player and obviously when you get to that point, there's some wear and tear. 'So we wanted to make sure we get it taken care of so he can be ready for us when the season starts. 'I don't see it as a long-term (thing). But I don't want to just stamp that right now, but I am sure it is not.' Taylor has been marked as a backup to starting quarterback Fields, however the former Pittsburgh star has struggled in his opening days at training camp. According to reports, Field went two for ten, four for sixteen and two for six over his last three sessions in camp - sparking concerns over his form already. Meanwhile, the Jets suffered another setback with rookie tight end Mason Taylor picking up a high ankle sprain injury that will keep him sidelined for a week. Though this type of injury can often take weeks to heal properly, Glenn remained adamant that it will not derail his progress in camp. Glenn said: ''He's a damn good player. He has the pedigree of being an NFL player because of his dad. I think he's going to be just fine. I'm not worried about that player at all.' Taylor is a second-round pick out of LSU and had been noted as one of the bright spots on offense for the Jets during their early weeks of training camp. The tight end is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, who spent the majority of his career with the Miami Dolphins.

Jets quarterback Justin Fields returns a day after dislocating toe, but doesn't practice

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Justin Fields returned to the practice field Friday but didn't participate in drills a day after dislocating a toe on his right foot. Fields, who was carted from the field Thursday early in practice, is being evaluated by the Jets on a daily basis. Fields wore his helmet as he spent most of practice on the sideline and with the rest of the offense while appearing to walk without a noticeable limp. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor led the offense during practice, with Adrian Martinez and rookie Brady Cook also receiving snaps.
